New Year Beginnings Candle Spell
Whether you ring in the new year on January 1st or during Samhain – considered by some to be the Pagan new year – the New Year is typically a symbolic time for new beginnings, for example breaking a bad habit or adopting a new one. This New Year Beginnings Candle Spell can help you as it can put you in the best state of mind to implement change and create the conditions you need to effect a new beginning.
This simple spell calls for a green candle as the colour green is favourable for working new beginning and fresh start magick.
Spell Tips:
- Use a beeswax candle if you can as beeswax helps multiple energies work together more effectively, which will help you realize change.
- If you don’t have a green candle, use a natural beeswax candle or a white candle instead and incorporate the colour green some other way such as by wearing something green.
- This spell can be worked at any time that you are planning on a fresh start. Making changes at the new year is symbolic, not obligatory.
Tools & Ingredients:
- a small green candle
- a candle holder or fire-safe plate
The Spell:

- In a quiet physically comfortable and candle-safe location, light the candle and repeat the following six times:
The past is gone;
the future is near.
It’s time to change,
starting now and here. - Focus on the candle’s flame for as long as you are comfortable doing so but at least 3 minutes. However, avert your eyes and blink whenever you feel the need.
- Allow the candle to burn out undisturbed in a safe location.
- In a quiet physically comfortable and candle-safe location, light the candle and repeat the following six times:
